Philosophy:
I believe in a multi-level
approach to taking standardized tests. The
three key components to test-taking are
reviewing and practicing general quantitative
and written/verbal skills, identifying the
specific format and "tricks" of each test, and
alleviating understandable apprehension towards
the test. One-on-one tutoring is an invaluable
resource in all three components, as it gives
students a chance to work on their specific
areas of concern, learning new ways to look at
challenging problems and gaining confidence in
their test-taking
skills.
Bio:
Growing up, Namara ran the gamut
of educational experiences, attending a
two-room schoolhouse in Katmandu, home-school
on a houseboat in Fiji, the International
School in Nairobi, and high school in New York.
Attempting to make her previous schooling look
mundane in comparison, Namara enrolled in the
Great Books Program at St. John's College in
Santa Fe, where students read the original
works of the Western Canon in philosophy,
literature, history, math, science, and music.
After graduating with a B.A. in Liberal Arts,
she resisted her desire to get a graduate
degree in philosophy and came to Washington
D.C. to find gainful employment. Namara has
spent several summers tutoring English in
Tuscany, Lisbon, and Madeira, and at least
three years trying to teach herself how to play
the
guitar.
