Tests:
PSAT, SAT, SSAT Subjects:
Economics, Chinese
Philosophy:
I think it is entirely possible
to feel good studying for the SAT or other such
tests (e.g. savoring the satisfaction of a
correctly solved math problem).
Acknowledging your daily improvements feels
good and can serve as added motivation to
improve your test scores. In keeping
motivation high, you will master the techniques
that will make you confident and self-assured
when you walk into your test. You may very
well be elated when that vocab word you
memorized ends up right there on the test! I
can't wait to help you find your motivation and
impart some very useful techniques.
Bio:
In 2003, I lived in Nanjing,
China for a year, teaching English to a wide
variety of students: middle school students,
sophomores and juniors in college, and
professors. I also tutored students one-on-one
in preparation for their standardized English
tests. My teaching philosophy has come out of
my time in China (as has much else about me!),
as well as my experiences as a student at Smith
College and at the Johns Hopkins University's
School of Advanced International Studies, where
I earned a B.A. in economics and an M.A. in
International Affairs, respectively. In my
spare time, you can find me reading a book for
my book club, keeping up with my Chinese, or
even helping my father catch a rattlesnake at
my parents' house in Texas! I'm from Severna
Park, Maryland, but I have lived in
Massachusetts, London and Nanjing, and traveled
to fun places like Senegal, Morocco and
Thailand.
