Overview
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test(PSAT/NMSQT) is a two hour ten minute exam administered to all high school students in the fall of their junior year. In addition to serving as a "practice" for the SAT, it also serves as the primary means to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship.

- Critical Reading: two 25 minute sections featuring both critical reading and sentence completion questions
- Math: two 25 minute sections comprised of both multiple choice and student produced response problems
- Writing: one 30 minute section which tests grammar rules through the use of sentence correction, error identification and paragraph improvement questions
