PREPMATTERS CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF BRINGING "BETTER SCORES. BETTER CHOICES" TO DC AREA STUDENTS

Bethesda, MD August 2007 - As PrepMatters celebrates its 10th anniversary as the leader in standardized test preparation and academic tutoring in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, it anticipates the 2007/2008 school year to be the strongest in the company’s history.

PrepMatters, founded by Ned Johnson in 1997, has grown organically by providing clients with personal experiences that generate both results and referrals. Once a three-man operation, PrepMatters now employs over 25 talented, experienced experts in the tutoring and college counseling arena. The company has also recently opened their second location in McLean, VA.

"The game has changed. Learning is not one size fits all. Colleges are becoming increasingly more competitive and parents are realizing that one-on-one tutoring is the better option for individualized assistance and addressing issues of anxiety for their children." said Johnson.

Johnson, co-author of the book Conquering the SAT: How Parents Can Help Teens Overcome the Pressure and Succeed, has logged over 30,000 hours of tutoring and takes the SAT multiple times a year, bringing perfect scores and on-the-ground experience to his instruction.

The PrepMatters team has diversified to meet the ever changing needs of their clients. It now includes key experts not only in test preparation but also in college counseling. Their college counseling arm consists of three major players in the industry: Dr. Kathleen O’Conner, Eileen Wilkinson and Dr. Garrett Lowe. College counseling offerings have grown in popularity among DC area parents and students because of PrepMatters’ unique ability to recognize that educational counseling is not just a presentation of information, but problem solving to find the best plan to prepare a student for success in college.

"With the average cost of college having doubled in the past 10 years, parents understand that the investment they make in college counseling and tutoring will pay off in scholarships and better opportunities for their children," said Johnson.

The sharpened focus on standardized test scores and strict college admissions deadlines coupled with the seemingly inexorable increase in competition and confusion about college admissions has led to a nationwide tutoring demand. PrepMatters is feeling the effects of that demand and in turn understands the importance of an individualized approach to test preparation. They take into account learning differences and learning styles in teens, anxiety-reducing techniques, what standardized tests are actually testing, and test-taking strategies that will help teens in all walks of life.

"For better or for worse, standardized tests won’t be going extinct anytime soon. As long as there are families who need help, we look forward to serving the DC area for many more years to come. To know that our expertise and methodology puts clients ahead of the game and on the road to a successful future is extremely rewarding," adds Johnson.
